Fast answer: use Bob as a loot hauler, use the Fairy as a trade NPC unless you specifically need Fairy Wings, and use Jonathan as a temporary bodyguard until friendly fire or control effects turn the route unstable.

Bob is route value, not DPS. Let him move stolen items, but do not overload the path with loose loot.

Bob: Hauling Support, Not a Fighter

Bob has no reliable attack pattern in current testing. Treat him as a utility NPC. His main function is transporting stolen objects, which makes him valuable when the team is clearing task items from the Human House back toward the Gnome World.

  • Best route: use Bob after the task cluster is known, not while the team is still scouting.
  • Known failure case: when too many stolen items stack in the same path, Bob can get stuck and stop moving cleanly.
  • Practical rule: feed him fewer, higher-value carries instead of dumping a full room of junk at once.

Fairy: Trade First, Kill Only for Wings

Burglin Gnomes Fairy NPC reward trade and laser eye counter
The Fairy is normally friendly, but any damage can flip her into laser-eye retaliation.

The Fairy is a reward NPC before she is a combat target. She can ask for specific items, then pay out materials or equipment after the requirement is met. Current route notes put her near the home area, with a chance to refresh during Human World days.

  • Friendly state: do the trade if the requested item is cheap or already on the route.
  • Retaliation trigger: damage from the player or another creature can make her fire laser-eye attacks.
  • Drop route: killing her can drop Fairy Wings. Equip the wings for flight utility.

If you are forcing the wing route, do not trade hits in open space. The clean line is Blowgun into Sleep Dart, attack during sleep, then refresh sleep before the control window expires. The faster but louder option is a human explosive such as Landmine, Grenade, or Firework.

Jonathan: Bodyguard Until He Is Not

Burglin Gnomes Jonathan NPC hut spawn and bodyguard route
Jonathan is called from a small hut by knocking three times, then follows close enough to function like a guard.

Jonathan is the strongest helper in this NPC set because he follows the player and attacks enemies. That makes him useful on routes where the team expects creature pressure but still needs hands free for loot or task items.

  • Spawn rule: he has a chance to appear in a small hut. Knock three times to call him out.
  • Friendly behavior: he tails the player and can intercept enemies, similar to a bodyguard.
  • Hostility trigger: if the player attacks him, he can swap from friendly to hostile and attack the player.
  • Chaos risk: after being attacked or affected by control, he can enter confused aggression. Keep him away from tight loot stacks.

Jonathan can drop the Music Box when disabled, controlled, launched, slept, or killed. Current utility is limited: pick it up if a route or collection plan needs it, but do not throw a stable bodyguard route just to force the drop.

Pathfinder Rules for NPC Routes

  1. Do not convert every NPC into a fight. Bob and Jonathan save time when left functional; the Fairy pays out through trades before combat.
  2. Control before friendly-fire tests. If you are testing Fairy Wings or Music Box drops, bring Sleep Darts or an explosive backup.
  3. Do not overload follower pathing. Bob can stall on loot piles, and Jonathan can cause problems in cramped rooms if he flips hostile.
  4. Separate reward runs from clean task runs. Finish the three required tasks first if extraction is the priority.
